Job Description

Based in London and surrounding areas, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join a leading company in the Smart Buildings / BMS Controls sector.

We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to provide both proactive and reactive post-contract support to the commercial and business functions for a company specialising in the BMS Controls / Smart Buildings sector. The successful QS will be responsible for ensuring a rigorous and controlled environment is in place to manage risk, cost and profitability across a portfolio of projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders including Operational Project Managers / Engineers, Business Managers, Legal, Procurement and Finance.
  • Upstream and downstream contract management for large projects mostly in the range of >£100k – £20m Total Contract Value.
  • Lead and manage the commercial process and work closely with the Project Manager(s) & Business Manager(s) surrounding:
      • Variation Agreements;
      • Final Account Agreements;
      • Contractual Notices/Commercial Responses;
      • Applications for Payment;
      • Disputes;
      • Contractual Interpretation;
      • Payment Notices; and
      • QSOR Creation.
  • Responsible for commercial reporting to manage risk and profitability effectively across the wider portfolio (as well as for individual larger projects).
  • Actively support the monthly review process and review overall commercial position for projects. Support the management of projects highlighting risks to the management team as required.

What you need

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Previous experience of successfully carrying out a Quantity Surveying role on a large project basis, ideally within the construction industry;
  • Strong knowledge and experience of standard form contracts (NEC/JCT/FIDIC) as well as bespoke contracts.
  • Highly experienced in financial control of projects, including cost control and other processes; and
  • Experience of dispute resolution processes.
