BMS SERVICE & COMMISSIONING ENGINEER
Central London | Zones 1 & 2 | Docklands
Up to £58,000 + Company Car or £6,825 Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits
Up to £58,000 + Company Car or £6,825 Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits
Already working on BMS systems across Central London?
If your next move needs to offer more than a different list of PPM visits, this role combines service and reactive fault-finding with the engineering and commissioning of smaller BMS works across Zones 1 and 2 and Docklands.
You’ll maintain and diagnose existing control systems, carry out condition surveys and recommend what needs to happen next. Where small works are required, your involvement can continue through software, controls procurement and commissioning to demonstration and customer handover.
The package is up to £58,000 plus your choice of company car or £6,825 car allowance, performance-related bonus and wider benefits.
WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY BE DOING AND WHY IT MATTERS
This is a field-based BMS role focused on customer sites across Central London, including Zones 1 and 2 and Docklands.
Your service workload will include planned preventative maintenance, reactive fault-finding and breakdown attendance in line with customer SLAs.
You’ll maintain software and strategy backups, capture site information, investigate BMS performance and produce reports covering both the work completed and your recommendations.
You’ll also carry out condition surveys where required.
The small-works element takes your involvement beyond service and maintenance.
You could be creating BMS software, producing wiring and commissioning schedules, procuring controls equipment and preparing technical documentation including Descriptions of Operation and O&M information.
You’ll then commission the controls and take smaller works through demonstration and customer handover.
WHY THIS ROLE COULD BE BETTER
If you’re already servicing BMS systems around Central London, many aspects of the job will naturally be familiar.
The reason to investigate this position is the scope beyond the service visit.
Rather than identifying an issue and necessarily handing the next stage elsewhere, you can also become involved in the engineering and commissioning of smaller works.
That creates a mix of:
• PPM, fault diagnosis and condition surveys
• Software, controls engineering and small-works commissioning
• Customer relationships, subcontractor coordination and handover
• Software, controls engineering and small-works commissioning
• Customer relationships, subcontractor coordination and handover
The technology exposure is broader too.
Relevant experience can come from Trend, Tridium, Schneider, Siemens or ALC, alongside knowledge of Niagara-based systems. You only need proven experience with at least one relevant platform, with additional systems training provided where necessary.
ESSENTIALS
You’ll need proven BMS service, commissioning or controls engineering experience.
You should have hands-on knowledge of at least one of Trend, Tridium, Schneider, Siemens or ALC, together with knowledge of Niagara-based systems.
You’ll also need:
• Good HVAC knowledge
• Electrical competence
• The ability to interpret and alter existing BMS control strategies
• Electrical competence
• The ability to interpret and alter existing BMS control strategies
This is a customer-facing position, so you’ll need to investigate problems independently, communicate technical findings clearly and produce useful site reports and recommendations.
You may also supervise junior engineers and coordinate subcontractors where required.
THE CHALLENGES
Central London service engineering means working across multiple customer sites rather than being based permanently at one location.
The territory covers Zones 1 and 2 and Docklands, so you’ll need to be comfortable working across that patch.
There is also a reactive element. Alongside planned maintenance and small works, you’ll attend call-outs and breakdowns in accordance with customer SLAs.
The breadth of the role also means moving between fault diagnosis, customer communication and planned maintenance on one job, then software, documentation and commissioning on another.
YOUR DEVELOPMENT
The opportunity here is to broaden your technical capability while remaining hands-on with BMS engineering.
Alongside PPM and reactive fault-finding, you can build further experience in condition surveys, software creation, controls procurement, technical documentation and small-works commissioning through to customer handover.
You’ll work in environments containing systems such as Trend, Tridium, Schneider, Siemens and ALC.
Where additional systems knowledge is needed, training can be provided.
There is also scope within the responsibilities to supervise junior engineers and coordinate subcontractors.

If you’re already working with BMS systems across Central London and want broader technical involvement than a straightforward service portfolio, this role is worth exploring.
You’ll keep the hands-on service and fault-finding element while adding greater involvement in surveys, software and the engineering, commissioning and handover of smaller BMS works.
If that combination appeals, get in touch for a confidential conversation about the Central London territory, technical remit and package.
